- Monday and Tuesday: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
- Wednesday: 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
- Thursday: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm
- Friday: Mobile Outreach (varied schedule)
Job Description
The Dental Hygienists perform advanced prophylactic and prevention dental procedures in the treatment of patient with related medical and dental problems, such as, diabetic complications, compromising heart disease and severe caries and periodontal disease.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- The hygienist shall review patient’s medical and dental history for evidences of past and present conditions such as medical illnesses and use of drugs which may complicate or alter dental hygiene treatment; examines the teeth and surrounding tissues for evidence of plaque and periodontal disease and charts findings; inspects the mouth and throat for evidence of disease such as oral cancer; interprets routine X-rays to identify tooth structures, calculus, and abnormalities such as cavities and bone loss.
- The hygienist shall refer abnormalities such as cavities, traumatic occlusion, and suspicious lesions to the dentist; prepares dental hygiene treatment plans for patients including assessment of the problems, type of oral hygiene care required, and the sequence of appointments needed to complete treatment.
- Dental Hygienist shall perform a complete oral prophylaxis on ambulatory and non- ambulatory patients; perform deep scaling & root planning, administers local anesthesia when necessary, polishes the teeth and applies topical fluoride for hypersensitivity and caries prevention; provides home care instructions and applies sealant to tooth pits and fissures for caries prevention.
- In post-operative care of oral surgery and periodontal surgery patients, performs suture removal, changes dressings, applies topical anesthetics, and provides home care instructions. Applies fluoride using tray technique, and maintains recall system for careful follow-up of each patient. Educates patient on daily oral health and fluoride treatment needs.
- The hygienist shall instruct patients at chairside on oral hygiene. Plans and adapts instructions in home care techniques and selects appropriate adjuncts (i.e. floss, proxobursh, period-aid), tailoring them to the oral hygiene needs and oral problems of individual patients. Explains to patients the causes of periodontal disease and tooth decay, risk factors for periodontitis, and the importance of diet as it relates to oral and systemic health.
- The hygienist shall instruct the nurses, health educators, social workers, nursing assistance, community health representative, and other medical staff in the proper techniques of oral hygiene to be applied to young patients, the bedridden, handicapped, disabled and chronically ill patients. Presents lectures and demonstrations in oral health care to various patient and community groups such as diabetics, hemodialysis patients, and drug or alcohol dependent patient, health boards, etc.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The contract Dental Hygienist shall posses either an RDH or BS degree from a dental hygiene school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association and have evidence of current licensure/registration.
- Must have a valid and unrestricted driver’s license (within 30 days of hire if applicant is from out-of-state) with no DUI/DWI or reckless driving convictions in the last five years and no more than two at-fault accidents in the last three years. Must maintain a valid Driver License during employment. Must be insurable by NATIVE HEALTH liability auto policy.
- Must pass a criminal background check with a Class I Fingerprint Clearance Card within the initial ninety (90) days of employment.
- Must pass a drug and alcohol testing upon employment and random testing during the course of employment.
- Must have updated Immunization (IZ) record.
- Must have a Tuberculosis (TB) skin test upon employment and employee health profile updated on an annual basis.
- Must obtain a CPR Certificate within ninety (90) days of employment and maintain a valid card during employment.
Salary:
$55,000 to $75,000 (based on experience and performance)
