Full-time/Part-time Dental Hygienist Wanted at Smileworld Dental Clinic in Waldorf, MD

Our clinic offers dental care to people of all ages, regardless of their ability to pay. As a multi-cultural community dental clinic, our goal is to provide excellent dental care to our patients, and to improve the health of the community by providing culturally sensitive, integrated primary and preventative health care to all, regardless of ability to pay or immigration status, and collaborating with community partners to address the social determinants of health.

A Registered Dental Hygienist is needed for the direct provision of non-surgical periodontal therapies, such as prophylaxis, scaling and root planing, perio maintenance and appropriate preventive services such as caries risk assessments, cancer screening, tobacco cessation, sealant placement and topical fluoride application in compliance with the dental practice to the dental patients.

The Registered Dental Hygienist will also be responsible for providing appropriate oral health information in individual and group settings and work as an integrated member of the dental and medical team, and also spend time providing services off-site at pre-schools or on the mobile dental van.

SCHEDULE

You have the flexibility to choose between full-time or part-time employment. Our clinic operates on the following schedule:

Full-time: 5 days a week (Monday to Friday) with specific work hours to be discussed during the interview.

Part-time: You may select your preferred working days (Monday to Saturday) with hours adjusted accordingly.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To be performed in accordance with Policies and Procedures

  • Assists in the oral health management of all clinic patients.
  • Obtains baseline oral hygiene assessment data based upon accepted principles of oral hygiene and periodontal care.
  • Records patient-hygienist transactions as they occur in the patient’s electronic dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided.
  • Provides oral health education and appropriate individual counseling for all center dental patients.
  • Provides clinical oral hygiene services including dental prophylaxis, scaling, root planing, sealant application and fluoride application consistent with accepted professional practices and standards and in compliance with applicable state law and the center’s clinical protocols.
  • Integration of appropriate patient dental hygiene care with other health care professionals involved in the patient’s health care management.
  • Organizes and performs preventive oral health presentations at on-site and off-site locations.
  • Assists in the provision of technical assistance and health education in the community as requested.
  • Participates in the department’s quality improvement projects and initiatives such as peer review.
  • Performs independent procedures as delegated and directed by a dentist in accordance with state regulations and law as well as Dental Department protocol and directive.
  • Assists in the maintenance of all Dental Department areas in compliance with Dental Department directive and policies as well as center policies and procedures relative to infection control, exposure control and safety issues.
  • Receives and places necessary telephone calls consistent with professional matters, clinic business and patient care of the Dental Department.
  • Assists with various clinical and administrative functions of the center as appropriate and time permits.
  • Insures the proper disposal of all contaminated or potentially contaminated materials in accordance with Dental Department directive and center policy as well as state federal regulations(s).
  • Complies in full with the center’s Exposure Control Plan.
  • Travels when necessary to meet operational needs.
  • As directed by a supervisor, performs other related and/or necessary tasks to achieve organizational and programmatic goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for personal compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dental hygiene and the clinical provision of dental hygiene services as well as those relating to, but not limited to, personnel issues, work place safety, public health and confidentiality.
  • Fosters an environment that promotes trust and cooperation among patients and staff.
  • Implements and enforces clinic policies and procedures, including maintenance of patient confidentiality, to ensure that the principles are implemented.
  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees, as requested.
  • Assists in agency advocacy/outreach and attends organizational events, as requested.
  • Attends staff retreats, as requested by supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned and requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of COVID-19 vaccines per current CDC guidelines.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of dental hygiene.
  • Unrestricted license to practice Oral Hygiene in the State of California required.
  • Current BLS Certification required; ACLS preferred.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with fellow healthcare providers.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communications skills required.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate clinical privileges required.
  • FTCA coverage or private professional malpractice insurance obtainable.

SALARY

$70,000 to $104,000 annually (for full-time, prorated for part-time).

However, the final base salary will be determined upon a number of individualized factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, education and certification levels, and departmental budget.
