Full Job Description

A mental health therapist is responsible for providing diagnostic assessments, therapy, counseling, and support services for a diverse caseload including adults, adolescents, children and families experiencing mental health issues, communication challenges, or family conflict. They are a deeply familiar with other services and resources within the community and work closely with them to provide information and support when required. Successful mental health therapists are deeply compassionate and possess excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.

Major duties include, but may not be limited to:

  • Maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients' treatment.
  • Possess basic technology skills and able to use an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Ability to incorporate complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice.
  • Create individualized treatment plans according to patient needs and circumstances, based upon evidenced based practice.
  • Skill in a range of specialized interventions and treatment modalities used in specialty treatment programs or with special patient populations. This includes individual, group, and/or family counseling or psychotherapy.
  • Meet with patients regularly to provide counseling, treatment and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
  • Refer patients, clients, or family members to community resources or to specialists as necessary.

Qualifications for Mental Health Therapist:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy.
  • Valid and Active license as an LCSW, LMFT, LPCC issued by the State of California.
  • 3+ years’ experience with providing diagnostic assessment and therapy services to a full range of individuals from youth through adulthood.
  • Maintain professional licensure and/or certification throughout employment with this agency.
  • Ability to work as a team member and cooperatively.
  • Superb organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with mentally or emotionally disabled persons and their families.
