JOB RESPONSIBILLITIES

  • Perform thorough eye examinations, including testing visual acuity, refractive error, binocular vision, and eye health assessments.
  • Diagnose various eye conditions such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia. Prescribe appropriate corrective measures, including eyeglasses, contact lenses, or vision therapy.
  • Identify and manage eye diseases and conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration. Refer patients to specialists when necessary.
  • Utilize advanced diagnostic equipment for specialized tests such as fundus photography, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and visual field testing.
  • Communicate examination findings, diagnoses, and treatment plans to patients in a clear and compassionate manner. Provide education on eye health, preventive measures, and proper eye care.
  • Prescribe topical medications for eye conditions and provide guidance on their proper usage and potential side effects.
  • Regularly monitor patients' eye health, track progress, and adjust treatment plans as needed to ensure optimal vision and eye health.
  • Adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards in the practice of optometry.
  • Engage in continuous professional development through seminars, workshops, and courses to enhance knowledge and skills in the field.
  • Prioritize patient safety and comfort during examinations and procedures, ensuring a positive patient experience.
  • Ensure that all optometric equipment is well-maintained, calibrated, and functioning properly.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Require candidates to have a Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited optometry school. Verify that they possess a valid and current state license to practice optometry.
  • An active and valid license to practice optometry, ensuring compliance with all necessary regulations.
  • Determine if specific specializations or certifications are necessary for your practice or if candidates with a broad range of optometric skills will suffice.
  • Assess their proficiency in using advanced diagnostic equipment, specialized software, and electronic health record (EHR) systems commonly used in optometry.
  • Optometrists should possess excellent communication skills to effectively explain diagnoses, treatment plans, and preventive measures to patients in a clear and empathetic manner.
