Regular business hours with occasional on-call and weekend duties.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Surgical Procedures: General surgeons are trained to perform a variety of surgical procedures on different parts of the body. This can include abdominal surgeries, hernia repairs, appendectomies, gallbladder removals, and more. They are skilled in both open and minimally invasive techniques.
Preoperative Assessment: Before any surgery, a general surgeon assesses the patient's medical history, conducts physical examinations, and orders relevant diagnostic tests to ensure the patient is fit for surgery. They make informed decisions about the appropriateness of surgical intervention based on their findings.
Surgical Planning: General surgeons develop surgical plans that take into consideration the patient's condition, the complexity of the procedure, and potential risks. They collaborate with other medical professionals to create a comprehensive treatment approach.
Intraoperative Care: During surgery, general surgeons lead the surgical team, guiding the procedure with precision. They make critical decisions in real-time and address any unexpected complications that may arise during surgery.
Postoperative Care: After surgery, general surgeons monitor patients' recovery, manage pain, and ensure proper wound healing. They may also adjust treatment plans as needed and provide guidance to patients and their families regarding postoperative care instructions.
Emergency Surgery: General surgeons are often called upon to perform emergency surgeries, such as trauma cases, acute appendicitis, or perforated organs. Their ability to act swiftly and decisively is crucial in these situations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education:
Bachelor's Degree: Start with a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as pre-med, biology, chemistry, or a related discipline. While there's no specific major required, coursework in biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics is essential.
- Medical School:
Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Degree: After completing a bachelor's degree, aspiring general surgeons need to attend medical school, which usually takes four years. Medical schools focus on fundamental medical knowledge and clinical skills.
- Residency Training:
General Surgery Residency: Following medical school, aspiring general surgeons must complete a residency program in general surgery.
