Full-time General Surgeon Wanted at Surgical Practice in Plano, TX
We are looking for a General Surgeon to join our team and perform a variety of surgical procedures on our patients in our health facilities.
A General Surgeon’s responsibilities include educating patients on their surgical options, preparing patients for surgery and leading surgeries as needed.
Ultimately, you will work with a team of medical professionals overseeing the medical and surgical care of patients.
Responsibilities:
- Preoperative Assessment and Planning:
Evaluate patients' medical history, perform physical examinations, and order diagnostic tests to determine the suitability of surgery. Develop personalized surgical plans, considering factors such as the patient's overall health, the type of procedure required, and potential risks.
- Surgical Procedures:
Perform a variety of surgical procedures, both elective and emergency, ranging from routine to complex surgeries. Utilize advanced surgical techniques, including minimally invasive procedures, to achieve the best possible outcomes for patients.
- Intraoperative Care:
Lead the surgical team during procedures, making critical decisions in real-time to ensure patient safety and successful outcomes. Perform surgical techniques with precision, adhering to sterile protocols and maintaining a high level of technical expertise.
- Postoperative Care and Management:
Monitor patients' recovery after surgery, assessing their condition and ensuring proper wound healing. Manage pain control, address complications, and make adjustments to treatment plans as needed.
Patient Consultations and Education:
Communicate with patients and their families to discuss surgical options, risks, benefits, and expected outcomes.
Provide detailed explanations about the surgical procedure, recovery process, and any potential lifestyle changes.
Qualifications:
- Education:
Bachelor's Degree: Start with a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, usually in pre-med, biology, chemistry, or a related science. This forms the foundation for medical studies.
- Medical School:
Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Degree: After completing a bachelor's degree, aspiring general surgeons need to attend medical school, which typically lasts four years. Medical school focuses on comprehensive medical knowledge and clinical skills.
- Residency Training:
General Surgery Residency: Following medical school, prospective general surgeons undertake a surgical residency program that usually spans five to seven years. This intensive training period provides hands-on experience in a variety of surgical procedures and patient care.
- Board Certification:
American Board of Surgery (ABS) Certification: After completing residency, aspiring general surgeons can seek board certification by passing the American Board of Surgery's examination. Board certification signifies proficiency and competence in general surgery.
- Licensure:
State Medical License: All practicing physicians, including surgeons, must obtain a medical license from the state they intend to practice in. Licensure requirements vary by state and usually involve passing a state medical board examination.
SALARY:
$400,000 - $500,000 per year based on experience and qualifications.
SCHEDULE:
Regular business hours with occasional on-call and weekend duties.
