Going into a first date, we take with us not only hope in finding romance and the right person, but we may also be full of nerves!

It is normal to be wary when meeting another person for the first time on a date because you have this focused time to share your personality, and also get to know them, and ultimately, determine if you want to meet them again for a second date.

To be able to decide if you want to meet them again, then you must be good at spotting green flags on your first date!

Green flags are signs, including attitudes, behavior, and communication, that indicate health and positivity in life and relationships.

Though relationships are not perfect, no matter how compatible two people are, let these green flags guide you.

  • Your date arrives on time. This shows good time-keeping and respect for other people’s time. It is a sign that they are dependable.

  • Your date is fully present at the moment. Reacts to small things positively, with good humor. Though they may be nervous too, they are able to have a good time with you, and be real. One sign of being engaged in them not constantly pulling their phone out during the date.

  • Your date and you converse about light and fun things, leaving the drama at home. A first date may not be the best time to pour emotional baggage to another person one has just met. This includes not constantly bringing up the subject or bad relationships in the past, or bad mouthing family members, co-workers, etc.

However, this does not stop you from talking about topics that you care about. When your date shows some vulnerability, and they share their passion, personal triumphs or lessons in life, it might mean that they have good communication skills.

  • Your date asks you about your day, and some more great questions and listens to your answers. People who are genuinely interested in what others have to say show maturity. They are engaging and easy to talk to. They share their opinions and values yours too even if they do not agree with them all.

  • Your date smells and looks great. It shows both good hygiene and your date’s effort to put their best foot forward.

  • Your date’s eyes smile when they are with you. It shows you have chemistry, and you can talk about both big and little things and still enjoy them. You click!

  • They treat the service staff with respect. Little things like being respectful and friendly towards the service staff can give you an idea about your date’s character.

  • Your date sends you a text shortly after your date. When they send you a thank you text, or tell you how much fun they had, and maybe another invite to meet up again soon, then it’s a green flag!

There will always be some awkwardness because it is your first time spending time together, yet by being real yourself, and by making it an effort to have fun, your date themselves will see green flags in you too! After all, you are half of the puzzle.

There are many ways that you can connect and  enjoy a first date. So, arm yourself with these first date tips in spotting green and red flags so you can keep your calm and increase your confidence!
